Rev. Scott Pickering |
Scott
was born and raised in Baxley, Georgia. He received
his B.S. degree from Georgia Southern University and
his Master of Theological Studies from the Candler School
of Theology at Emory University. Scott has also completed
studies at the Church of God Theological Seminary, the
Interdenominational Theological Center, and the University
of Wales at Lampeter.
A part of Scott's theology is that Christians have a
working knowledge of what sin is in their own personal
lives. Therefore, while it is critical to identify and
name the sin in one's life, the most important thing
is discovering ways in which to overcome this sin. Using
this premise, Scott encourages his listeners to accept
Jesus Christ as their Savior while demonstrating the
possibilities of a "new" life in Christ Jesus.

"Sin is the fatal disease of which we all suffer. It
is our responsibility to use the freedom of will that
God placed within each of us to decide whether we will
dwell in our sufferings or rise to the new life Christ
freely offers to us. I choose life." Central to choosing
life is shaping one's life after the example of our
Savior. Scott encourages his members to "Do all the
good you can, in all the ways you can, as long as you
ever can." (John Wesley) It is not the merit of our
actions that save us; rather, our actions are our response
of thanksgiving for a merciful Savior.
