For those of you who are not familiar, you should know that River of Life is a mission event which enables youth and adults, from many different churches, to come together to express the love of Jesus Christ.

It started 16 years ago at Lincolnton UMC in Lincolnton, GA and has spread throughout the United Methodist Conferences.

Youth work to spread Christ’s love by ministering to the people of various communities through home repairs and

improvements. The event also encourages each participant to deepen their devotion to Jesus Christ and to live a life of ministry to others, especially to those in need.

For three days, youth from all over the state will go out and help homeowners in need to make small improvements to their property.

We focus on four main projects:

  • painting the exterior of the home
  • building porches and wheelchair ramps
  • roofing
  • landscaping

Each project is overseen by adults who are knowledgeable in the area of renovation that is taking place at that particular home site. The event not only offers teenagers a chance to deepen their faith, it also shows them what they can accomplish with a little bit of effort.
