Money Collection
There are a lot of activities that require collecting money from parents. Please help by having the check or money available during the Monday troop meetings. If you can't make it please send Renae an email to make arrangements. The following are events: Merit badge Day 12/6 and 1/10; Winter Camp 12/27 through 12/31; Popcorn settlement; Ski Trip and the Unit Recharter deadline 12/15.
Troop Recharter - 2009
It's Unit Recharter Time. Troop 79 must complete its recharter by Dec 15th.
Please see Renae Chontos, Treasurer, for dues and recharter amounts for 2009.
Christmas Tree Lighting
The Tyrone Christmas Tree lighting will be held on December 5th from 6pm to 9pm. The Troop will participate again this year collecting can goods. Scouts should arrive in your class A uniform at 5:30pm. The town will furnish the table.
Court of Honor
Our final Court of Honor for 2008 is scheduled for Monday, 12/15. The scouts have done a great job this year and we will gather for awards and fellowship. *** Pictures Needed *** Jim Noffsinger is putting together a slideshow presentation of the Scout's activities this past year. If you have pictures from crossover, meetings, camping trips, etc. we would appreciate getting them on a CD (or by e-mail if there are only 1 or 2) so they can be incorporated into the show. Contact Jim at jrnoffsinger@bellsouth.net or jrnoffsinger@juno.com.

Merit Badge Day - Jan 10

Volunteers Needed!
Our troop continues to grow. In order to keep the troop moving forward we need parents to step up and volunteer for various roles and commit time to the troop. Even if your time is limited and you can only volunteer for one or two activities per year that helps the troop. With that in mind we are in need of the following:
- Assistant Committee Chairperson - someone to work with me the committee chair to coordinate activities pertaining the the troop committee
- Assistant Treasurer - a parent who can support Renae's efforts as the Treasurer and eventually take over as Treasurer when Renae steps down
- Assistant Secretary - a parent who work with and support the efforts of the incoming Secretary
- Events Coordinator - a parent who will coordinate with other parents specifics events for the troop
- Assistant Advancement Chairperson - a parent to work with our Advancement Chair person, Carl Imes, in collecting information concerning rank advancement and merit badge activities
- Event Cooridinators - to coordinate various events such as merit badge days, camping trips, community service projects, and fundraising etc.
- Merit Badge Counselors - if you have expertise in one of the merit badge areas and want to teach a class that would be great
- Board of Review Volunteers to help with Board of Reviews that are held twice a month.
- Other Volunteer Positions - we need parents who will work with the boys who have been elected Quartermaster, Historian, Chaplin, Scribe, etc. Someone who will encourage and support the scout in his leadership position
See the Committee Tab for other available positions.
Wintercamp - Dec 27-Dec 31
Troop 79 is attending Winter Camp this year. Winter Camp is very similar to Summer Camp
and it provides a great opportunity for the boys to earn additional merit badges.
We had four boys attend with another Troop last year and they had a great time.
Winter Camp also has some high adventure opportunities for the older scouts. The
boys will be sleeping in tents and their meals are provided by CampThunder.
Where: Gerald I. Lawhorn Scouting Base (Camp Thunder)
When: Saturday,
December 27 through Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Or we can plan to leave after
the closing campfire on December 30.
Cost: Fees for 2008 are $175 per scout
and $75 per leader. Fees will be broken down into two payments:
- $100.00 - due by November 17
- $75.00 - due by December 15
Parents, we will need adult supervision. Even if you can't
attend the entire camp, we can split up the nights among willing participants.
NOTE:
Additional fees for specialty programs, buckskin, and high adventure will be in
addition to the $175 camp fee. Any merit badge fees will be paid at the trading post
upon arrival at camp.
